RISE is a global research initiative focusing on overcoming the learning crisis by improving the education system. Ms. Risa Nihayah mentioned that although teachers are significant to the teaching process, they are also embedded in the larger picture with many other elements. One of the findings that she highlighted was that good bureaucracy could ensure good quality of the education system.
To create sustainable change on these findings, Ms. Risa said that RISE continued to work closely with the government and all education stakeholders to provide data and insights for policymakers, especially regarding reopening schools. It also includes information for public benefits. Ms. Risa also emphasized the need for education accessibility, especially for remote areas in Indonesia where there are still many improvement gaps.
Ms. Risa summarized key takeaways, starting with developing bureaucratic capacity. The different approaches resulted in other education policies and results. The one with bureaucratic capacity had created evidence-based policy and yielded sustainable results, while the one was terminated. Another takeaway is that high parental involvement could prevent education loss. Lastly, systematic coherence or collaborations are significant in driving education changes.
