On Sunday, November 20th, 2022, is Universal Children’s Day 2022. It is not a public holiday, but rather an international observance; All of the United Nations (UN) member countries celebrate Children’s Day on their respective designated dates. A fun-filled day with a serious message, the day offers us an opportunity to champion and celebrate children’s rights that will help build a better world for all children, for they are the future.

Every year, the UN designates a particular theme for Universal Children’s Day — and the theme for Universal Children’s Day 2022 is “Inclusion, For Every Child.” Every child, regardless of their society, community, or nationality, is entitled to equal rights, with an emphasis being placed on eradicating discrimination against children from different backgrounds. This is done so to ensure children of all types of skin tones are welcomed and given space In a global society where their fundamental rights are guaranteed and upheld.

Unfortunately, more often than not are the rights granted to people regarded in typical government documents as being for adults, not to mention the fact that adolescents’ rights and equity are still a source of contention for both adult children and young people in several societies. Furthermore, if the problems that today’s children face are not readily obvious in adults’ daily lives, it may be easy to overlook them. This could deliver a detrimental blow to the psychology of the children, especially those whom communities deem unacceptable or as misfits. Thus, Universal Children’s Day aims to raise awareness that millions of children worldwide lack access to education, healthcare, or opportunity in general, thereby promoting togetherness among children worldwide and enhancing the welfare of all children. We will all work together to support or rescue children from all territories and bring about change.

However, changes take time, and by the time we mean generations. If we want to ensure a stable, safe, and sustainable future for our planet, we must start with investing in the children of today — that is why early education is paramount as the cornerstone of our future, and the UN is leading the charge here. Thanks to it, treaties that guarantee children’s rights to life, health, education, play, family, and protection from violence, discrimination, and suppression have been enacted by governments all over the world.

Together, children and society grow; A prosperous society depends on the bright future of its inhabitant children. With the concept of “Inclusion, For Every Child,” we have more chances to collaborate for the benefit of our children: to encourage their narratives and unite all of them under the one flag of an inclusive world. Viewing its long-term mission of making a world that is peaceful, inclusive of all children, and impervious to all forms of prejudice, Universal Children’s Day 2022 seeks to urge the public to advocate, celebrate, and campaign for children’s rights by including each child in a strive for a secure future.
