Green Skills Readiness for Future Jobs in ASEAN Cities:Case Studies from Vietnam

Bangkok, 6 June 2026 — The Equitable Education Fund (EEF) invites policymakers, education practitioners, researchers, local-government officials, youth-development organisations, employers, civil-society partners and the public to join an international academic webinar under EEF Inter-Forums Phase VI, titled “Green Skills Readiness for Future Jobs in ASEAN Cities: Case Studies from Vietnam.” The event will be held online on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, from 14:00 to 15:45 hrs. ICT, via Zoom and Facebook Live.

As ASEAN cities move towards greener and more inclusive economies, young people will need practical skills that connect education, innovation, local livelihoods and future employment. This webinar will explore how green skills can help prepare students and disadvantaged youth for emerging work opportunities, while supporting sustainable development in cities and communities. Drawing on case studies from Vietnam, the discussion will highlight the role of universities, local communities, cooperatives and public-private partnerships in building practical pathways into green jobs.

Programme overview and speakers

The session will feature two guest presentations from the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trịnh Ngọc Nam, Head of the Office of Science Management and International Affairs, will present “Training Green Entrepreneurship Skills for University Students: From Innovation and Startup Competitions to Startup Enterprises.” His presentation will examine how universities can equip students with green entrepreneurship skills and help transform innovation and startup activities into practical enterprises.

The second presentation, by Dr. Tran Thi Thu Thuy, lecturer and researcher at the Institute of Environmental Science, Engineering and Management, will focus on “Heritage Rice Learning Labs: Preparing Disadvantaged Youth for Green Jobs in Hoi An, Vietnam.” Her presentation will introduce a community-based learning model that uses heritage rice landscapes as hands-on classrooms for young people, linking low-carbon farming, value-added processing, green business and heritage-based tourism.

The programme will also include a complementary presentation from Mrs. Pattama Weerawanit, President of the Council, Institute of Vocational Education Central Region 3, on Thailand’s Green TVET Roadmap 2025 – 2030, a national framework for transforming vocational education into a driver of sustainable development. The roadmap focuses on five key areas: building a Green TVET culture, developing a green-skilled vocational workforce, creating model Green Colleges, strengthening community participation, and promoting green research and innovation.

Attendance is free of charge. The webinar will be conducted with simultaneous Thai-English interpretation and sign-language interpretation. It will be livestreamed via Zoom and Facebook Live at@EEFThailand and@EEF Inter-Forums.
