A Life Rewritten: Empowering young offenders for renewal through alternative education
The Equitable Education Fund (EEF) Thailand warmly invites the media and all interested parties to join our international webinar titled “A Life Rewritten: Empowering young offenders for renewal through alternative education,” scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:45 PM.
Since 2020, the EEF has spearheaded a project in collaboration with the Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection, the Infinite Intelligence Foundation, CYF Foundation, and a network of 6 learning centers to develop an alternative education model for children and youth involved in the justice process.
This online seminar tackles the pressing issue of juvenile offenders’ limited access to education while being detained. With a specific focus on developing prototype models and alternative education programs, the forum will explore international and local practices that have proven successful in ensuring continuation of learning and skills development, with proven restorative impact on their transformation and their reintegration into the society after detention.
Attendees will gain firsthand insights into the importance of alternative education for juvenile offenders, starting with Mr. Denial Bey, Regional Director of Prison Fellowship International. Mr. Denial will share experiences focusing on the crucial role of prison education in restoring lives, in line with Prison Fellowship International’s mission to transform the lives of prisoners, their families, and victims worldwide. Operating in a vast market comprising 18,000 prisons and serving 12.2 million prisoners and 18.3 million families, Prison Fellowship International underscores the societal benefits of prison education, including reduced recidivism rates and enhanced social and economic mobility. Mr. Denial will discuss various types of prison education programs, from formal tertiary education to vocational skills training, while addressing challenges and advocating for holistic approaches to prison education, especially for young offenders.
Following Mr. Denial’s presentation, the webinar will feature distinguished Thai representatives: Mr. Supachai Traithaiteera, Director of the Infinite Intelligence Foundation, and Dr. Netdao Yangyubon, Head of the Social Innovation Center for Local Governance and Sustainable Development at the Faculty of Political Science, Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus. Their presentations will introduce an educational model aimed at bringing about positive change for children and youth within the criminal justice system, through an appropriate educational framework aligned with individuals’ preferences and requirements for successful reintegration into society.
We cordially invite the media and all interested individuals to actively participate in this webinar. For those wishing to join, please connect via Zoom Meeting for live bilingual translation or tune in via Facebook Live @EEFthailand and EEF Inter-Forums Media (without Thai translation).
